Tips for Getting the Most out of Your RV Generator

RV Generator

If you want to maintain a comfortable environment inside of your RV, then you need to invest some time and effort into servicing your RV generator. Because your RV generator provides electricity for your appliances and lighting, its maintenance should always be one of your top priorities. Here are a few tips and tricks for getting the most out of your generator each time you use it:

Fire it up! If your generator sits for an extended period of time without being used, the fuel inside of it will start to break down, which creates a dirty residue that often creates surges or hard starts. Additionally, your generator can accumulate moisture, which can also damage it. Your RV generator should be run every 4-5 weeks for about 2 hours at a 50% load.

Check to see if it needs generator repair. Every four weeks, give your generator a once-over. Look for oil or fuel leaks, and make sure the oil levels are safe. You should also pay attention to the fuel and air filters to make sure they are clean and functioning properly. This is particularly important.

Know the difference between a gas generator and a diesel generator. Although idleness issues are the same for both types of RV generators, each type of generator requires a different type of care. You should consult with the manufacturer of your RV to determine best care practices for your particular model of generator.
